Victoria Falls National Park

Victoria Falls lies on the border of Zambia and Zambezi and is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. For this reason, it is listed as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

The falls are just over 1 mile wide and 340 feet high. During the wet season over 19 million cubic feet of water plummets over the edge into the Zambezi River. The spray from this water rises 1000 feet into the sky and has been reported to be seen from over 25 miles away. The local name Mosi-oa-Tunya meaning "Smoke That Thunders" seems most appropriate.

Famous Features

Devil's Armchair, as shown in the picture to the left, can allow people to swim as close as possible to the edge of the falls within the pool due to a natural rock wall just below the water. This must only be attempted when the river flow is at a safe level, usually during the months of September and December.

At Knife edge bridge provides visitors with a view of the Eastern Cataract and the Main Falls as well as the Boiling Pot where the river turns and heads down the Batoka Gorge. Other vantage points include the Falls bridge and the Lookout Tree which commands a panoramic view across the Main Falls.
